Car hire in Athens without the airport-desk games

CarHire Athens is a comparison service. We list live cars from vetted rental companies in Athens, and your contract is with the supplier who hands you the keys. You see the real total before you book, not at the counter.

Honest totals

The price you compare includes the mandatory charges. Optional extras like child seats or a second driver are itemised before payment, never sprung on you at handover.

Free cancellation

Most offers cancel free of charge up to shortly before pickup. Lock in a spring price for an August trip without risking a cent.

Debit cards accepted

Many Athens suppliers take debit cards and several cars list a zero deposit, so you do not need a credit card with a four-figure limit to drive in Greece.

Airport or city pickup

Collect at Athens International Airport, at a city office near Syngrou Avenue, or have the car delivered to your hotel by arrangement.

Compare, book, drive

Compare

Enter your dates once and see every live car in Athens side by side: transmission, insurance, deposit terms and the full price for your exact rental period.

Book

Reserve online in a few minutes. Your confirmation states the supplier, the meeting point and their direct phone number, so nothing about pickup is a mystery.

Drive

Meet your supplier, do a quick walk-around together, and head out: the coast road to Cape Sounion, the ferries at Piraeus, or straight into the Athens traffic like a local.

A car turns Athens into a region

The metro covers the centre well, but the best of Attica sits beyond it. With your own car the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion is a 70 km coastal drive, the beaches of Vouliagmeni and the Athens Riviera are an afternoon trip, and Piraeus port puts Aegina or Hydra a morning ferry away.

Suppliers here know the routine for visitors: unlimited-kilometre offers for road trips, clear rules for taking cars on ferries, and pickup times matched to your flight rather than office hours.

What our customers say

“Landed at midnight, the supplier was waiting with a sign at arrivals. Ten minutes later we were on Attiki Odos heading into town.”
Tomasz Wieczorek, Warsaw
“Booked a Corsa for a week and drove to Sounion and Nafplio. Car was older than pictured but ran perfectly and the price beat every big brand.”
Claire Beaumont, Lyon
“No deposit, paid with a debit card, dropped the car back at the airport at 5 am. Exactly what the booking said, nothing more.”
Daniel Oyelaran, London

Renting in Athens: quick answers

EU and UK photocard licences are accepted as they are. If your licence was issued outside the EU or UK, most suppliers ask for an International Driving Permit alongside your national licence, so arrange one before you travel.
The compared price includes the mandatory charges for your dates. Anything optional, such as full excess cover, a child seat or an additional driver, is shown with its own price before you confirm the booking.
Only with the supplier's written permission, and policies differ. Some allow ferries to nearby islands, others exclude them entirely because breakdown cover stops at the port. Say so at booking if you plan island driving and we will point you to suppliers who allow it.
Greek fleets are mostly manual, but about a third of the live Athens fleet on this site is automatic, starting around €50 per day in summer. If you need an automatic, book early: they are the first cars to sell out.
